How to SMS subscribe someone’s status update on (new?!!) Facebook!
June 11th, 2011 § 3 Comments
Okey… This is stupid… Or stupidest…
A few months back Facebook rolled up the new interface, you already know that. Actually it stayed till this morning as a mystery that how to sms subscribe someone’s status. In previous interface it was so easy. We just go to the profile we want to get sms subscribed to, and scroll down to the bottom left and click ‘SMS subscribe’. Wolaaa!!!
But they took it off in the new interface.
Seriously Facebook has the worst customer care I have ever seen. Somehow I managed to find a mail id or something and mailed them the problem and never get replied. :s
So after thinking out for a while I figured out a simple way of doing it. It is like just going into a mobile site of Facebook, visiting the profile and then clicking ‘SMS subscribe’. Cuz the option was there.
So, the step 1, is something like you are in a PC viewing FB and you wanna SMS subscribe to your friend’s satus updates. Just go to their profile. So the link will be like, http://www.facebook.com/Muru.Neo . All you have to do is, instead of ‘www’ you have to put ‘m’ and press enter. So you should visit http://m.facebook.com/Muru.Neo where you can find the ‘SMS subscribe’ option. Okey, this is a baby step.
Step 2, is the original way that got implemented in new interface of Facebook that I haven’t figured out for so long. Here, all you have to do is, go to your ‘Account Settings’ and then click the ‘Mobile’ tab. There you will see a header as ‘Whose status update should go to my phone’. There you can type someone’s name and subscribe.
After finding this method I showed this to a friend, he asked “Why should I have to subscribe someone and get my inbox filled?”
Oh come on!!! :s

A small-letter or a big-tweet to Microsoft about Internet Explorer
October 19th, 2010 § 2 Comments
Hi there!
I am Murshid, from a tiny island called Sri Lanka, a Software Engineering student and your lover since 1999. I hope that intro is well enough for now. I am fine here and I hope (?!) you are fine there too.
Well, that question mark and exclamation mark within brackets is what this letter all about.
I don’t know whether you know my past or not. But if you go back through my diaries they explain how much i loved windows and all your products.
When I was 10, I got introduced to Windows 98 and it was awesome. I played games, listened to music, did my home work and assessments and last but not leased I browsed internet (it was a 56k connection which had to connect through my telephone line to a ISP which is 300 km away from my home). You know what, the most favorite thing I had in Windows was Internet Explorer. I was like going into a dream whenever I opened it. I enjoyed browsing a lot. To me Netscape was a bit tough to use like a newly caught wild horse.
I have no idea about coding, the browser engines and all. But after a few years I gained enough idea of what was really going around me while I browse internet. Meanwhile the problems between you and Netscape kinda finished and I heard it is no more. Then I got to know somehow they turned into an opened source foundation as Mozilla. Then Firefox came out. Got it through IE and tried it. I loved the way it worked. It was cool, fast and awesome. Then went through a deep search about the browser engines. In sometime, Chrome came and it was super awesome. Yeah Firefox sucks a bit nowadays and Chrome couldn’t handle heavy scripts a bit. Every browser had minuses and pluses. But why IE has minuses only? Ok, leave everything, now my question is why are you still releasing Internet Explorer in Trident engine. I mean, ok may be they do the work of rendering. Then why it is damn slow? I have no idea why you keep your own mechanism yet in this thing only. Did you give word to a dying grandpa?
When you released this new Windows Internet Explorer, I thought you gonna rock. But again, the same shit. Failed at “HTML5Test” as well. I have a doubt by the way, “Area all Microsoft employees using Internet Explorer at office? Do you have any strict rules like that?”. I wonder the law must have been already broken a million times. Else if you say no one has broken the rule, then God must be busy receiving scoldings from your employees for you
Now everything is changed. There are a lot of open source engines you can implement. I ask you only one thing. Please don’t treat IE like a 80 year old grandpa who is in need of changing diaper :S You just give up your ego in this. You are giving IE for free, then what is the big deal in using some free stuffs in it. This is just like @Microsoft being in twitter. Did you come up with your own micro blogging platform to share your stuffs within 140 characters? No huh. Just like it. You are a giant in desktop. I am proud about it. But you have to adjust yourself when it comes to Web. You have got to know by your past failures over web. Do you remember that you had MSN browser or something? It sucked than IE. SO adjust yourself in this ‘browser case’.
Finally all I am asking you is, “Please don’t have ego. Even you don’t have to bury IE. Just change it inner stuffs a bit. We need it more faster, more lighter and more simple.”
Thanks,
Murshid,
Your lover
How to move your ‘blogger blog’ to one google account from another?
October 14th, 2010 § 3 Comments
I have been searching for a very good answer for the question “How to move your ‘blogger blog’ to one google account from another?”. Because I wanted to shift my blogger blog from my old google account to new google account. So I could manage my all my web activities from one account. Who will like going to their old apartment just to shave their beard? By the we could just export the blog and import to your new account. The thing is you wont get the same URL for your new one. This is a disadvantage in importing and exporting. If some old fan of your blog try to visit your blog after a long time he wont find it out unless you give a proper route guide to your new blog.
At last I have figured out a way to have the same URL from our new account and did it. After a while I searched and found the same way some other blogs as well
.
So here is the way…
1st, Go to your blogger Dashboard from your old account
2nd, Select the Settings link of the blog which you wanted to transfer to your new google account
3rd, Click the Permissions tab which will be under the Settings tab
4th, There you will see a thing as Blog Authors, here all you gotta do is clicking Add Authors and give your new google account’s email address (the new gmail address), click invite. You will receive a new email to your new gmail. In it, click the link which will come after ‘To contribute to this blog, visit:’. Now your new google account is an author of that blog which means you can write and post to that blog from your new account.
5th, Now you have to come to your old account in blogger. Refresh the Permissions page, Now you will see an option as grant admin privileges right next to your newly added author (your new account). CLick it. Now you have given the Admin rights to your new account.
6th, Now you will see a Remove button at right side to both Authors. Click the Remove button which is in row of your old account’s name. Confirm it by clicking the Remove Blog Member in the pop up window.
Tadaa, Now you have transferred your blog with the same old URL to your new google account
Important Thing: Now you can delete your old account by clicking this link while you are logged in with your old account. But the thing is, if you have updated your blog with pictures and videos, you will lose them too. Because, google will update them inside Picasa Web. So if you thought it is not a big deal delete it. I have no idea yet how to get the old URL for your pics if you back up them. If you could get things done in that way, you can delete your old account completely without getting worried.
Google’s URL shortener ‘goo.gl’ has opened its gate
October 1st, 2010 § 4 Comments
Atlast google‘s ‘URL shortener‘ service goo.gl has opened its gate for everyone. At first, when google introduced this service or if we say in their language ‘Trying an experiment’, they didn’t give it so openly. It was as a API only, so developers could use or integrate the service in their apps or extensions.
Now they have made it wide opened for end users so we don’t need any applications or extensions anymore to use the goo.gl URL shortening service.
The most important plus point about goo.gl is, it has a dedicated database to store the URLs that are shortened by people which means they are permanent pointer to the original URLs. So you can use the shortened URL after a very long time also and still it will redirect to the original site. Only a few URL shortener services got this advantage. The thing is, if a URL shortener concentrated more on giving a very short URL, that means the derived shortened URL will work only for a few amount time like 3 months or something. Then it will get deleted and will be available for another URL-to-be-shortened.
As a goo.gl user I can say, so far it worked for me like a charm.
Give a try.
Release of Windows Live Essentials 2011
October 1st, 2010 § Leave a Comment
A long expected version of Windows Live Essentials (2011) is released at last. I have no idea when this miracle happened. Now only I downloaded.
You know, Microsoft had no luck in web based products in past times. They couldn’t compete with other competitors in the ‘web’ battle even though they are the giants in non-web products yet. But this ‘WLE 2011′ arrived in a different perspective. It contains a whole package of Movie maker, Live messenger, Live photo gallery, Live mail, Live writer, Mesh and Family safety. Enhanced version of everything than their previous one works like a charm.
My favorite in this whole pack is the messenger which connects Facebook, Myspace and Linkedin. Works just like a desktop client for these sites. Another most awesome thing is, we can do chat as well. I mean, we can chat with facebook contacts. Yeah guys, it’s freaking awesome to a guy like me who was searching for a better client than Pidgin for chat in facebook. I haven’t tested Myspace as I don’t have an account in it.
Likewise Live photo gallery has advanced a bit with sharing options and all. As well as other products in WLE 2011. Live mail seems a bit awesome offline email client. So far I find this product awesome and I suggest you to give a try. Try it babies

How to become famous in Facebook!
May 15th, 2010 § 14 Comments
Ok, this is not that tough. First we have to drain our readers by omitting some people. Like asking a few questions.
1. Are you a celeb?
2. Are you a girl?
I kindly request you both parties to Get the hell outta here
Cuz you don’t have to read this as all friends will come and comment you even if you pissed in facebook
Ok, now come to the point. Here are a few things you should do to achieve that goal.
1. Maintain a pretty good info tab:
Maintaining a good info about you in facebook is a must. You should clearly tell who you are, what you like and blah blahs. Expressing these these things in a funny and attractive language is more good. Remember, you aint preparing a CV.
2. Pictures:
Picture or Photo maintenance is an art. Upload you own pictures as new albums or profile picture and do not tag people who are not in those pics. Celeb’s pictures or other Quote pictures aren’t much likable. Use ‘Wall Photos’ to put funny or not-your-portrait pictures, and tag people to attract to that pics. Do not create hell of albums. Maintaining a few amount of albums are good.
3. Videos:
Videos attract most people to your profile. So share some nice videos. Like heart-touching commercials and stuffs.
4. Status Updates:
This is the most important thing ever which helps you to become famous. Updating a pretty good status will bring you crowd and likes. The percentage of your famousness is counted by the ‘likes’ you get. So don’t count the amount of comments and be happy. Sad quotes will bring you more attention of girls, but I’d rather prefer funny and nasty updates. Update what you feel at that moment. Do not go and update an already-updated-by-your-friend status.
5. Be interactive with others openly:
I hate sending private messages to people. What I do is I share what I feel in others’ walls. So you will get wall to wall replies most of the time which will make you wall more interactive. Note: Stop sharing quotes on walls.
6. Stop apps era:
Apps are the worst things which prevent you from becoming famous. Stop playing games in facebook. They make your wall ugly. They will make your statuses go down, so you wont receive much ‘likes’.
So I hope these will help you most of the time. Enjoy Facebooking
The Blind Side – Not (just) a review
April 21st, 2010 § 2 Comments
Last night I was way too tired cuz of spending my day at friend’s place. Didn’t have an idea of studying , do came across my movie collection checking whether there are some unwatched movies around. Finally I found this ‘The Blind Side‘ movie in that collection. I used to check the trailers 1st before I watch the movie
May it is cuz I am a movie maniac. Whatever! They were also pretty heart touchable. So decided to watch it.
This movie was based on a ‘Extra Ordinary True Story‘ of an American sports star ‘Michael Oher‘. Michael Oher is a boy who born in the slum sort of side of the city to a drug addict mother. His early stages of life was very dark like not much educational. One day his friend’s father (In his house Michael used to to stay) takes him to a school to admit. By coach’s push as that boy can become a star in sports in future, the admission accept him after a lot of debate. He grows like he doesn’t have any interest in the subject which are taught in the school. One day a teacher figures out that he writes. So she suggests others to teach him in the way he understands, like verbal teaching. Every people around him were like good.
One day a police officer comes and tells that his father has died. Meanwhile he gets away from his place cuz he didn’t want any disturbance to them by him. So he doesn’t have any other place to go. And it turns out to be a rainy day. So, at night he goes to the gym to stay at warm place. On the way Touhey’s family see him. Mrs. Touhey (Done by Sandra Bullock) invites him for one night stay. After that incident she gets to know that he has no one to take care of him. So she started taking care of him as a mother. Touhey’s all family members like him. Even Collins who didn’t like at 1st then accepts him as a big brother. So after some days passed officially accept him as a family member. They help him in becoming a sports star and improving his educational skills. He gets high marks in “Protective skills” which make him as a great defender in American Football.
And the story goes on and finishing in style.
The thing is I have watched only a few movies in what all the characters appear as good people. And when comes that it was a real story, I think this is really awesome. It made me think “How many of us have been like this?”.
Some of my friends said we used to do so. Like giving money to beggar people.
Yeah we do, once in a blue moon. Happiness is not in money right?
We can help them literally. Ok, who am I talking about. Mmm… Well, the people who don’t have shelter, food & proper education.
Ok, I think this idea will work out. Movie industry people can make movies about them to make us help them. Politicians can allocate more stuffs for them. Also they can reduce prices of goods in budget instead of increasing salary of people, so all classes of people can enjoy. And more over every person in a family can give away at least a thing that they really don’t want when they have it, to those kinda people who are in need of it
That’s all folks for now
Hello ‘Me’!
April 19th, 2010 § 4 Comments
Hi,
As you know I named my blog as “As me, I see you” you can come to an idea of what kinda thing this will be. Well, first of all I should let you know about me. I am Murshid Ahmed s/o Mr. & Mrs. Abdul Azeez. Born and raised in a tiny city called “Kattankudi” which is just 1.5 sq mile area and contains almost 40,000 people as population and situated in the Eastern Province of “Sri Lanka“. I got introduced to internet and web way back in 1999. Got introdueced to blogging in 2004. Was a Blogger blogger
. Haven’t had idea of what really blogging means. So thought of sharing everything what I experienced in my day-to-day life. It became far more like a diary. My dad was checking these stuffs and got to know that I had an affair with a girl
So aweful. So I deleted all my blogs. Then haven’t got an idea of writing anything after that. Was like concentrating on my studies. Again came back to blogger and started a blog in “Tamil” language and named it as “Alapparai” which means ‘shouting and diverting others’ sights on us’ in Tamil. It goes slowly and steadily till now. So thought of starting a blog in English as my blogging-friends are gaining more popularity than me in the e-world.
So I am starting this blog to share what ever I feel worth sharing.
When it comes to my character, I am a fun loving person. Loves to do nasty little things. Reading a bachelor degree in Software Engineering. A movie addict, coffee lover, cricketer, soft rock listener, so-often-twitterer, roamer, amateur photographer and it goes on
If you like, follow me on, Twitter. Or in Facebook in so close future
