A small-letter or a big-tweet to Microsoft about Internet Explorer

October 19th, 2010 § 2 Comments

Hi there!

I am Murshid, from a tiny island called Sri Lanka, a Software Engineering student and your lover since 1999. I hope that intro is well enough for now. I am fine here and I hope (?!) you are fine there too.

Well, that question mark and exclamation mark within brackets is what this letter all about.

I don’t know whether you know my past or not. But if you go back through my diaries they explain how much i loved windows and all your products.

When I was 10, I got introduced to Windows 98 and it was awesome. I played games, listened to music, did my home work and assessments and last but not leased I browsed internet (it was a 56k connection which had to connect through my telephone line to a ISP which is 300 km away from my home). You know what, the most favorite thing I had in Windows was Internet Explorer. I was like going into a dream whenever I opened it. I enjoyed browsing a lot. To me Netscape was a bit tough to use like a newly caught wild horse.

I have no idea about coding, the browser engines and all. But after a few years I gained enough idea of what was really going around me while I browse internet. Meanwhile the problems between you and Netscape kinda finished and I heard it is no more. Then I got to know somehow they turned into an opened source foundation as Mozilla. Then Firefox came out. Got it through IE and tried it. I loved the way it worked. It was cool, fast and awesome. Then went through a deep search about the browser engines. In sometime, Chrome came and it was super awesome. Yeah Firefox sucks a bit nowadays and Chrome couldn’t handle heavy scripts a bit. Every browser had minuses and pluses. But why IE has minuses only? Ok, leave everything, now my question is why are you still releasing Internet Explorer in Trident engine. I mean, ok may be they do the work of  rendering. Then why it is damn slow? I have no idea why you keep your own mechanism yet in this thing only. Did you give word to a dying grandpa? :(

When you released this new Windows Internet Explorer, I thought you gonna rock. But again, the same shit. Failed at “HTML5Test” as well. I have a doubt by the way, “Area all Microsoft employees using Internet Explorer at office? Do you have any strict rules like that?”. I wonder the law must have been already broken a million times. Else if you say no one has broken the rule, then God must be busy receiving scoldings from your employees for you ;)

Now everything is changed. There are a lot of open source engines you can implement. I ask you only one thing. Please don’t treat IE like a 80 year old grandpa who is in need of changing diaper :S You just give up your ego in this. You are giving IE for free, then what is the big deal in using some free stuffs in it. This is just like @Microsoft being in twitter. Did you come up with your own micro blogging platform to share your stuffs within 140 characters? No huh. Just like it. You are a giant in desktop. I am proud about it. But you have to adjust yourself when it comes to Web. You have got to know by your past failures over web. Do you remember that you had MSN browser or something? It sucked than IE. SO adjust yourself in this ‘browser case’.

Finally all I am asking you is, “Please don’t have ego. Even you don’t have to bury IE. Just change it inner stuffs a bit. We need it more faster, more lighter and more simple.”

Thanks,

Murshid,

Your lover :)
